The Formula One world remains in shock this evening following Marussia's Jules Bianchi's horrific crash during today's Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit. The Frenchman underwent emergency surgery and remains in a critical condition in Intensive Care in hospital.
Reigning world champion, Infiniti Red Bull Racing's Sebastian Vettel believes that the sport needs to learn from what happened in Japan today.
Typhoon Phanfone hit Japan this morning bringing with it torrential rain which delayed the start of the race which eventually went ahead. It had been suggested earlier in the weekend that the race start could have been brought forward in order for Formula One to miss the typhoon however this did not happen.
Speaking following the race, the reigning world champion commented by saying:
'Trying to move the start time... people failed in 1976 and they still fail today. It's obviously the pressure from TV, from media, which doesn't allow that but I think given the circumstances race direction did what they could.'
The German went on to talk about Jules Bianchi's accident saying:
'To have an accident like that is impossible to predict. For sure it happened and it must be something we learn from so that we avoid something like this happening again. For now this is not important, we are all thinking about Jules.'
Vettel said that conditions were tricky on track today but that right the racing is not important.
