The Ferrari Formula One team endured a difficult day in extremely challenging conditions during today's Japanese Grand Prix at the Suzuka circuit.
Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen started the race from 5th and 10th place on grid respectively However just two laps into the race Alonso' F14-T came to a halt with an electrical fault as a possible result of water entering his cockpit, as a result, the Spaniard suffered his second non finish in the space of three Grand Prix. Speaking after the race Alonso said:
'It was a shame. I had an electricity problem, may be some connection problem. We lost an opportunity today.'
As a result of his non finish Alonso has now fallen behind the man who widely expected to take his seat at Ferrari next season, Sebastian Vettel and is now in fifth place in the championship just three points ahead of Williams Martini Racing's Valtteri Bottas who is in sixth place.
Following a difficult weekend up utnil the start of today's race, Kimi Raikkonen endured another difficult race for the Italian team as the Finn ended the race in 12th place just outside the points. The Iceman is now in eleventh place in the championship, one point behind Sahara Force India's Sergio Perez.
Speaking about his race, Raikkonen commented saying:
'Overall, this was a very disappointing weekend. I had set-up problems right from the first day and again today in the race I didn't manage to drive the way I would have liked.
After the start behind the Safety Car, the track conditions were pretty atrocious and visibility was very poor, but my car was handling okay. Then, when the rain eased, I fitted the Intermediate tyres, but after a few laps, they were no longer up to temperature and they began to give me problems at the front end, which meant I had to slow down.
Now, we will try and resolve this problem as quickly as possible and aim to improve, starting with the very next race, but more importantly right now, let's hope we get some good news about Jules Bianchi soon.
