The Caterham F1 Team have confirmed that Kamui Kobayshi will be in the car alongside Marcus Ericsson for his home race, the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka this weekend. While confirming Kobayashi will race on Sunday, the Leafield based outfit also confirmed that Roberto Merhi will be back in the car for Free Practice One on Friday morning.
Kobayashi said that he is very excited to be racing one again in front of his home fans in Suzuka where he claimed his first and to date only Formula One podium when he took a fantastic third place finish for the Sauber F1 Team in 2012.
The Japanese driver also went on to thank his fans for the support that has allowed him to return to Formula One in 2014.
The Leafield team have seen a marked improvement in their performance on track with Marcus Ericsson finishing the Singapore Grand Prix last time out in 15th place. Unfortunately Kobayashi was unable to start the race.
He stated that although he won't be in a position to challenge for another home podium he is hoping to reward his fans for supporting him.
Meanwhile Robeto Merhi, who drove for the team in Monza during Free Practice 1 will get another chance to show the team what he can do as he will drive in Free Practice One on Friday in Suzuka. Merhi went on to thank the team for giving him another opportunity to drive the car.
