Honda block Alonso's LeMans drive

McLaren engine partner Honda have blocked Fernando Alonso’s attempts to race at this year’s LeMans 24 Hours.

The Spaniard had been in discussions with Porsche to drive a third Porsche LMP1 919 Hybrid alongside fellow Formula One driver, Sahara Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg and his friend Mark Webber.

Honda, who team up with McLaren this season as the Japanese manufacturer returns to Formula One for the first time since 2008 were not happy that Alonso wanted to drive for Porsche in the event.

McLaren, who are famous for not allowing their drivers to take part in dangerous activities outside of their Formula One commitments were reportedly willing to release Alonso to allow him to race at LeMans. However, Honda, who are paying a portion of the Spaniard’s salary said no.
