Three second jump in performance expected this season

(Pirelli Motorsport Media)

Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery has stated that the Italian tyre supplier expected there to be a three second jump in performance this season.

Hembery has stated that initial data shows that the new 1.6 litre V6 turbo charged power units will be on a par with the old 2.4 litre V8 engines with the help on the new range of Pirelli tyre's.

Hembery told Autosport that the new fact that the teams have been allowed to develop the power train over the winter will enable them to be even faster this season.

He believes that the time the Formula One circus arrives in Melbourne for the first race or at least by the Chinese Grand Prix the 1.6 litre turbo charged units will be similar in terms of pace to the old V8 engines.

This year, Hembery believes that Pirelli’s tyre choice will be more aggressive after being accused of going too conservatively with their choice last year.
