Former McLaren driver John Watson believes it will take
several years for the Woking based outfit to challenge for race victories.
The
team embark on a new partnership with Japanese manufacturer Honda this season,
for the first time since 1992. The two parties carried out a shake-down of the
new 1.6 litre V6 turbocharged power unit at the end of last year.
Watson, who drove for McLaren from 1979 – 1983 and again in
1985 stated that he feels that it will take a bit of time for the new
partnership to blend. He feels that the team have to have a two year programme
minimum to get a winning car in Formula One and three years for the new partnership
to be dominant.
McLaren-Honda will have an extremely experienced line up
this season with Fernando Alonso joining Jenson Button at the Woking based
outfit in 2015.
