Renault Sport F1 are targeting at least 5 victories this
season accoding to Managing Director Cyril Abiteboul.
The Renault powered Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team took three
victories last season at the hand of Daniel Ricciardo who took victories in
Canada, Hungary and Belgium.
The French manufacturer have seen their
involvement in the sport cut in half following the news that the Caterham F1
Team entered into administration, while long-term partner, the Lotus F1 Team
have moved to Mercedes.
Abiteboul believes that his company reduced the gap to
Mercedes by the end of last season and are hoping to close the gap further to
the German manufacturer. Renault want to close the gap further by the start of
the season in Melbourne.
Renault now supply Infiniti Red Bull Racing and Scuderia
Toro Rosso. Abiteboul has also confirmed that Renault will not object to Bernie
Ecclestone’s idea to produce more powerful engines.
Renault endured a difficult start to the 2014 season and
will be hoping to close the gap straight away as testing gets underway in Jerez
next weekend.
