Maldonado not bothered by fan criticism

(Glenn Dunbar for the Lotus F1 Team)

The Lotus F1 Team’s Pastor Maldonado has insisted that he is not bothered by criticism from some fans about his driving style.

The Venezuelan will enter his fifth season in the sport this season and his second with the Lotus F1 Team. He has a reputation in Formula One for causing crashes. Some fans have even stated that the only reason he is in Formula One is due to the fact that he brings a substantial amount of financial backing from Venezuelan oil giant PDVSA.

In 2012, Maldonado scored his only victory to date when he won the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit Du Catalunya.

The Venezuelan started the race from pole position after Lewis Hamilton (then driving for McLaren-Mercedes) was penalised and sent to the back of the grid.

Maldonado scored just two points during his first season with the Lotus F1 Team last season and says that in Europe, particularly in Italy his has many fans as that is where he came through the ranks on the motorsport ladder.

The Venezuelan and his French team mate Romain Grosjean will be hoping to produce better results for the Enstone based outfit as the embark on a new journey with Mercedes power units.
