The Mercedes AMG F1 Team head to the German Grand Prix next weekend having taken their eighth win in nine Grand Prix last weekend at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone when Lewis Hamilton closed the gap to Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg in the championship to four points after taking victory, his first win in Silverstone since he won the championship for McLaren in 2008.
Nico Rosberg had a difficult weekend in Silverstone as the German suffered his first retirement of season following a gear box failure.
Earlier this season Hamilton went on a four Grand Prix winning streak and has now won five Grand Prix so far this season compared to three race wins for his team mate and current championship leader Nico Rosberg.
Hamilton will be aiming to head into the Summer break following the Hungarian Grand Prix as championship leader however Rosberg will be doing everything is in his power to ensure that this does not happen. He will be aiming to do what Hamilton did in Silverstone and that is win his home event which is the next race at the Hockenheimring.
For Mercedes it would also be a fantastic result if they could take a home win with a German driver but they would also be happy to Hamilton take the win just as long as one of their driver's wins the race. Mercedes Motorsport boss Toto Wolff was recently asked whether he felt that Nico Rosberg had dealt with the pressure of the title fight in a better way then Hamilton. In response to this question Wolff said:
'Not at all. We spend a lot of time with the team and on Saturday night [Hamilton] showed he is very stable and mature in the way he goes about tackling things. For me I am an insider so I see the development, but if you see how the radio goes and how calm everything happens, there is no bad word any more.'
Mercedes head to their home event with a sizable advantage over their rivals in the battle for this years championship. Just like Hamilton was bolstered by the home support in Silverstone, Wolff believes that Rosberg will experience the same feeling next weekend when the F1 circus pitches up in Hockenheim.
