Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner
believes that the Milton Keynes based outfit’s rivals the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS
F1 Team did an incredible job in 2014.
The Brackley based squad won the
Constructors championship while their driver Lewis Hamilton won his second
Formula One world championship having secured his first time with McLaren in
2008.
Nico Rosberg finished runner up to Hamilton after the pair
completely dominated the season, winning 16 of the 19 Grand Prix in 2014.
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg scored 31 podium finishes
for the Brackley based outfit which was an incredible achievement for the
Silver Arrows. Horner believes that the advantage that Mercedes had over the
course of the 2014 season was far greater than anyone had expected going into
the new era of Formula One using the hybrid technology.
Horner believes that Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s main focus
for this season is to close the performance deficit to Mercedes. The Milton
Keynes based outfits boss feels that Mercedes invested more in the new era of
Formula One power unit, the 1.6 litre V6 turbo charged power unit compared to
Renault who power Infiniti Red Bull Racing.

Renault really struggled to get to grips with the new power
plant at the start of the season however they finished the season well
particularly with Infiniti Red Bull Racing, their primary engine partner.
Horner went on to congratulate Mercedes on their success in
2014, and stated that he felt when it came to his own Red Bull team and Renault
it was vital that the two company’s changed their relationship as in 2014
Infiniti Red Bull Racing ceased to be just an ‘customer’ of Renault but they
became a ‘works partner’ as Horner felt that the power unit supplier has ro be
fully integrated into the team.
