The FIA have confirmed that from
2016 onwards they will introduce a new points system for drivers hoping to
enter Formula One.
In order to compete in Formula
One, all drivers must hold a FIA Super Licence and from next season in order to
eligible to apply the licence drivers must be
- Over the age of 18
- Have accumulated 40 points in a three year period competing in junior motor racing categories.
- Hold a valid road car licence
- A driver must complete 300KM in a modern Formula One car
- Drivers must pass a test on the Formula One Sporting Regulations.
Unlike in the previous years,
winning the Formula Renault 3.5 Series will not be enough to allow drivers to
obtain a Super Licence. The FIA have confirmed that if a
driver finishes in the top two in the GP2 championship they will automatically
be eligible for a Super Licence.
