The FIA confirmed on Friday that the engine manufacturers
will be allowed to develop their power units this season as a result of a
loophole in the regulations. All of the manufacturers with the exception of new
entrant Honda will allowed to develop their units.
Formula One race director Charlie Whiting has confirmed that
the Honda, who will supply McLaren with power units this season will have to
homologate their power unit by Saturday February 28th 2015, as this
was the date that the other manufacturers had to abide by in 2014.
That date
for Honda coincides with the final winter test which is scheduled to take place
from February 26th – March 1st.
Honda will be hoping that despite the fact that they will
not be allowed to develop their power unit this year that they will be
competitive from the first race in Australia.

Honda will supply McLaren exclusively this season, but have
not ruled out supplying more than one team in the future. The last time Honda
supplied more than one team in Formula One at the same time was in 2008 when
they had their own works team as well as supplying the Super Aguri Formula One
Team. That was the last season that the company was involved in Formula One.
