McLaren Honda’s Jenson Button was happy with the progress
that the team made on Friday. The 2009 world champion completed 101 laps before
the MP4-30 stopped out on track. The Englishman ended the day in 5th
place with a fastest time of 1m 25.590s.
Button stated that completing over 100 laps was like
completing 1000 following the issues that have plagued the Woking based outfit
over the course of winter testing.
Button said that the reliability of the car had been great
on Friday and that despite the times being nowhere near where they should the
team have certainly made progress over the winter. He feels the team need to
work on the power unit and that the final two days of winter testing will be
used to work on the performance of the Honda power unit.
The team have plenty of work to do according to Button but
that they are making progress. Kevin Magnussen is in the car on Saturday as
Fernando Alonso is resting prior to the start of the new season following his
testing accident last Sunday. The Spaniard released a video on Friday thanking
his fans for their support and saying that he is perfectly fine.
Jenson Button will conclude McLaren-Honda’s winter test
programme at the Barcelona Circuit de Catalunya on Sunday.
