Honda have confirmed that they will introduce a host of
upgrades to their power unit for the Formula One winter test which gets
underway at the Circuit Du Catalunya in two weeks’ following a challenging
start to their partnership with McLaren.
The McLaren MP4-30 managed to complete just 79 laps over the
course of the opening test in Jerez this week after suffering a number of
different mechanical issues.
However the Woking based outfit were expecting there to be
problems as this is normal with any new partnership.
Speaking to Sky Sports
News HQ earlier this week McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier revealed that
the team are not where they would like to be at the moment having completed
around 50% of the work they wanted to get down in the opening test.
Honda Racing’s Yasuhisa Arai has confirmed however that the
Japanese manufacturer will have updates to their power unit for the next test.
Arai revealed that the power unit will be a step up in
Barcelona and will receive some but not all of its race specification updates
for the Barcelona test with the rest coming prior to the first race in
Melbourne.
Arai revealed that they and McLaren are working through
everything step by step.
