Mercedes and Hamilton should have a new deal in place before the Australian Grand Prix

(Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team)

Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s Executive Director (Business) Toto Wolff is confident that his team will secure a long term contract extension with reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton and that the deal will be concluded before the opening race of the 2015 Formula One season in Australia which takes place in less than a month.

Hamilton’s current three year contract expires at the end of the season however the double world champion has always expressed his desire to remain with the Brackley based outfit while the Silver Arrows have also said that they would like to continue with their current line-up of Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Rosberg has already committed his long term future to the team and they are not going to put themselves or Hamilton under unnecessary pressure to get a deal signed.

Hamilton is negotiating his own contract after splitting from XIX Entertainment. Wolff told the Press Association that the talks are going as well as can be expected that any contract talks are always tough but he also said that while the team would ideally like to have a deal in place before the Australian Grand Prix it is not a deadline.

Hamilton is not the only high profile driver who is out of contract at the end of this season as Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen’s contract has an ‘option’ for both sides to continue or not but the Iceman is not worried about his situation.
