Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner believes that his team are in a better position going into the 2015 Formula One campaign compared to this time last year.

Horner’s comments come after the team completed the second lowest number of laps over the course of last weeks’ opening winter test in Jerez. Over the four days the RB11 completed a total of 165 laps with only McLaren Honda completing fewer laps of the Spanish circuit.

The reasons for the lack of running were as a result of issues with the new Renault power units. Horner confirmed that the new RB11 is an evolution of the RB10 and that the biggest change for this season is the new Renault power unit. The French manufacturer have halved their involvement in the sport over the winter after the Renault powered Caterham F1 Team ceased while the Lotus F1 Team have moved to Mercedes Benz power.

Horner says that they (Red Bull) are not reading into the times from testing so far as he says that last season Kimi Raikkonen was fastest on the opening day of winter testing and this didn’t following through to the 2014 season.

He said that the Milton Keynes based outfit are very much focussed on themselves and not what their rivals are doing.

After a challenging start to the 2014 season Infiniti Red Bull Racing went on to be the only team other than the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team to take a Formula One victory as Daniel Ricciardo won three Grand Prix in Canada, Hungary and Belgium.

The team went on to finish the season in second place in the championship behind the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.
