Morning update from Day 1 in Barcelona

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton currently leads the way in the early stages of the opening day of the final Formula One winter test in Barcelona. The double world champion has set a fast time of 1m 24.881s. The Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team driver is currently just 1.106s ahead of Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s Daniil Kvyat.

Felipe Massa is currently third fastest for the Williams Martini Racing Team with a 1m 26.399s, 1.518s behind Hamilton.

There has already been a red flag with Daniil Kvyat stopping at the end of the pit-lane in his Infiniti Red Bull Racing RB11. The Lotus F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean is currently in fourth place in the E23 Hybrid with a 1m 27.525s, 2.644s behind Hamilton, it the Frenchman’s second day in the new car having driven it on Sunday on the final day of last weeks’ test.

Marcus Ericsson is currently in 5th place in the Sauber C34 with a 1m 29.172s. The Swede has completed 21 laps so far.

Scuderia Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen is currently in 6th place with a 1m 29.590s, 4.709s behind Hamilton while McLaren-Honda’s Jenson Button is currently in 7th place with a 1m 31.479s.

The Sahara Force India Formula One Team are not running today but have confirmed that Nico Hulkenberg will drive the new VJM08 on Friday when the car makes its on track debut.
