Lopez unhappy with how his team were treated by Renault in 2014

(Lotus F1 Team)

Lotus F1 Team Principal Gerard Lopez has stated that his outfit’s problems were in part as a result of Renault focussing on Infiniti Red Bull Racing in 2014.

The Enstone outfit endured an extremely difficult season where they finished in eighth place in the championship on 10 points having score points on just three occasions over the course of the season. This compares to the outfit scoring points in all but one race in 2013 and finishing that year in fourth place in the championship.

Lopez felt that the team would have performed better had Renault no focussed on just one team and despite trying to improve the E22 he feels the Enstone outfit’s campaign ended with seven or eight Grand Prix remaining last season.

Lotus have now switched from Renault to Mercedes power with their drivers Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado saying that they could immediately feel an improvement with the new car as soon as they got in the cockpit of the new E23 for the first time.
