McLaren Honda will decide later this week if Fernando Alonso will drive the MP4-30 for the final winter test which gets underway on Thursday.

The Spaniard continues to rest following a heavy lateral impact with the concrete wall at turn 3 of the Barcelona Circuit de Catalunya on Sunday morning caused by a sudden gust of wind. Alonso was taken to the circuit medical centre and later transferred by helicopter to a hospital in Catalunya where he underwent routine medical assessment.

Doctor’s decided to keep the double world champion in hospital overnight on Sunday with his manager confirming on Monday that the Spaniard was resting. Alonso’s manager tweeted a photo of the Spaniard giving the thumbs up from his hospital bed on Monday.

If the team decide to rest Alonso for the final test they could call on the man he replaced, Kevin Magnussen as the Dane has remained with the Woking based outfit as official test and reserve driver. However it is more likely that Alonso will be in the car with Jenson Button possibly driving the car on the opening two days.

This would Alonso a further two days to rest if the team feel it is necessary.
