McLaren Honda Racing Director Eric Boullier believes the signing of Fernando Alonso is a major coup for the Woking based outfit.

Alonso joins the Woking based outfit from Ferrari following five seasons with Scuderia Ferrari which saw the Spaniard win multiple Grand Prix but failed in his attempt to secure championship with the Italian team.

Boullier knows that it is going to be a challenge for the Woking based outfit in 2015, with the outfit having joined forces with Honda however he also sees Alonso’s signing as ‘a huge positive’ for the entire team. Boullier is delighted that the team were able to convince the Spaniard to join the team despite having two years remaining on his Ferrari contract.

Boullier stated the fact that Alonso is returning to the team is a sign that he believes in the team’s new project with Honda.

The Frenchman revealed that Alonso is already texting him every day and that with Alonso joining Jenson Button at the Woking based outfit for 2015 it is the boost that the team need following a difficult season for the team in 2014.

They finished the season, their last with Mercedes in fifth place in the Constructors championship on 181 having scored just two podium finishes which came at the very first race of the season in Melbourne, Australia where Kevin Magnussen finished the race in second place while Jenson Button finished in third place.
