Carlos Sainz Jnr was at the Scuderia Toro Rosso factory on Tuesday for meetings with his new Formula One engineers along with a seat fitting.

The Spaniard was confirmed as Max Verstappen’s team mate at the Italian outfit for the 2015 Formula One season. Sainz Jnr replaces Jean Eric Vergne who announced on Monday that he will drive for the Andretti Autosport Formula E team starting with this weekend’s race in Uruguay.

Sainz is not completely new to Formula One as he has previously driven as a test driver for Infiniti Red Bull Racing.

It was confirmed that the 20 year olds performance at the end of season Abu Dhabi test for the Milton Keynes based outfit convinced the head of Red Bull’s young driver programme Dr Helmut Marko to promote the Spaniard.

Sainz Jnr will make his debut as an F1 driver at the opening test of the Winter which takes place in Jerez from February 1-4.
