F1 should introduce point's for pole and fastest race lap as a way of spicing up the show

Formula One is currently looking for ways to spice up the show as a way of reaching a wider fan base with commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone calling for a series of summit meetings to discuss ways of improving the show for fans.

There is a simple solution to this however. The sport should scrap the current plan which will double point’s being awarded at the final race of the 2014 season in Abu Dhabi and instead introduce a secondary point’s scoring system which awards point’s for the pole sitter.

A pole position trophy has been commissioned for the season however a points table for the pole lap.

The is already the DHL Fastest lap award which is given to the driver with the most fastest laps of the season and it would be a great incentive for teams and drivers as it would be another way for them to collect point’s.

It would have the potential to spice things up as smaller teams may receive a point for setting the fastest lap during a Grand Prix.

As it stands the only point’s awarded are for the top ten finishers in a Grand Prix and this would new system would add extra incentive for teams as it could potentially mean that they will receive a larger share of the prize money handed out at the end of the season as this is done on the basis of where a team finishes in the Constructors championship.

Depending on a where a team finishes in the championship determines where their garages are located in the pit-lane. This would certainly be a great way to get more fans interested in the sport.
