Ferrari's Fernando Alonso has stated that Mercedes performance so far in 2014 is a 'good surprise' for Formula One following four years of Red Bull dominance. Mercedes have taken nine victories from the eleven Grand Prix so far in 2014 such has been the dominance of the Silver Arrows. If the season remains like this the Brackley based outfit could wrap up the Constructors championship at the Singapore Grand Prix next month.
Alonso has now told his Ferrari team that Mercedes are motivation for them to come back in 2015 with a strong car which will allow them to challenge for next season's championship. Ferrari are in third place in the Constructors championship 251 points behind runaway leaders Mercedes.
Fernando Alonso is currently in fourth place in the championship on 115 points, 87 behind championship leader Nico Rosberg.
Alonso believes that Ferrari need to sort out their problems and like Red Bull last season Mercedes are the benchmark and that his team need to get to the level that Mercedes are at.
