Former IndyCar turned Sauber affiliate driver Simona De Silvestro believes that the timing is right for her to enter Formula One and that she feels ready to compete in the sport. The Swiss driver joined Sauber earlier this year and has conducted a number of rigorous tests for the Sauber team in a two year old Sauber F1 car.
Silvestro spent four season's in the American IndyCar Series which proved to be a great spring board into Formula One. On Saturday 5th October 2013 De Silvestro finished the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston on the podium in 2nd place for the KV Racing Technology team.
De Silvestro has tested for Sauber twice so far in 2014 testing at Ferrari's test track in Fiorano and also testing for the team at the Valencia circuit in Spain.
Prior to her test at the Valencia circuit De Silvestro spent time with the Red Bull Racing in their simulator in Milton Keynes completing 70 laps to learn the circuit. De Silvestro has also attended a number of Grand Prix with the Sauber F1 Team.
Sauber team principal Monisha Keltenborn has confirmed that towards the end of the year De Silvestro will test for the team at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin Texas after which the team will take another look at the progress that Simona is making.
