Perez close to signing Force India contract extension

(Sahara Force India Formula One Team)

Sergio Perez has revealed that he is close to agreeing a contract extension with the Sahara Force India Formula One Team that will see him race with the outfit for a second season. The Mexican joined the Silverstone based outfit from McLaren at the end of last season and has done a great job for the team so far this season.

Perez scored Sahara Fore India's first podium since the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix earlier this season at the Bahrain night race and is currently in eleventh place in the championship on 29 points. He will be hoping to score more points this weekend in Belgium as he was forced to retire from the Hungarian Grand Prix last time out.

Team principal Dr Vijay Mallya stated recently his desire to retain both Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez for the 2015 season as both drivers have done a fantastic job for the team.

Hulkenberg is currently in seventh place in the championship on 69 points having scored a top ten finish in all but one race this season as he retired from the last race in Hungary.

As a result of Perez and Hulkenberg's strong performances this season the Sahara Force India F1 Team find themselves in 5th place in the Constructors championship on 98 points, one point ahead of the McLaren Mercedes Formula One Team.

Perez has confirmed that a deal with the team should be sorted out in the coming weeks.
