The Williams F1 Team confirmed via their official Twitter account that their new car was fired up successfully for the first time on Saturday evening at the teams HQ in Grove.

Team principal Sir Frank Williams was present to oversee the team's new Mercedes 1.6 litre V6 turbo charged engine come to life in the back of the new Williams FW36 which will make it's on track debut in Jerez in just over a week.

This is an extremely exciting time for the sport as Formula One enters a new era and it is going to be intriguing to see how all the teams get on with the new regulations and how quickly they can get to grips with the new breed of engine.

It is also a particularly exciting time for the Williams F1 Team as not only do they have a new engine supplier but they are also joined by former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa who joins Valtteri Bottas at the squad on a multi year deal.

The team will be hoping that the new technical regulations and the arrival of race winner Massa will enable them to move up the grid which is where they should be after a difficult season in 2013.
