McLaren have all they need to succeed this season

McLaren Mercedes head into this season on the back of what can only be described as their worst season in their recent history. In 2013, the team failed to finish on the podium never mind winning a race.

For 2014, however it is all change at the Woking based squad. The team will start the new with an as yet to be announced new title sponsor after Vodafone decided not to extend their agreement with the team who they have backed since 2007, at the time of the announcement of the Vodafone/McLaren agreement it was one of the most expensive sponsorship deal to be done.

Jenson Button heads into his fifth season with McLaren and has absolutely no intention to walk away from the sport anytime soon. He is joined at the team by rookie Kevin Magnussen who has shown McLaren that he is up to the challenge of Formula One having impressed the team in lower motorsport categories and indeed in his role in the teams young driver programme.

This season marks McLaren's last season with Mercedes as they will switch to Honda power plants next season.

McLaren have an incredible heritage and success is part of their DNA. I know that sounds mad but it is true. Over the years the team have won countless constructors and drivers titles. The team have an incredible facility at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, so they may not be a fully fletched manufacturer like Ferrari or Mercedes but they have the resources of a manufacturer.

I am absolutely convinced that Martin Whitmarsh and the team at McLaren will be extremely competitive this season and with Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen at the team they have the ability to challenge for the 2014 championships.

McLaren had a very difficult season in 2013, whose to say that Red Bull, Mercedes or Ferrari won't have have a similar season this year. Formula One is completely unpredictable and that is what makes it such an exciting sport.
