Ross Brawn to replace Whitmarsh at McLaren?

(Ben Johnston 2014)

Could Ross Brawn be set to cut short his F1 sabbatical? That is the speculation in the Formula One paddock at the moment following the news on Thursday that Ron Dennis has been reappointed as CEO of the McLaren Group.

Dennis has confirmed that there will be changes at the team that will be announced in February following a review by Dennis.

It has emerged that Ron Dennis held talks with Ross Brawn at the end of last year, however it is not yet known if whether Brawn would be willing to come back to F1 early as when he announced that he was leaving Mercedes he said that he was taking at least six months off before deciding what he was going to do next.

It is believed that Martin Whitmarsh will not be at the helm of the McLaren F1 Team come the first race in Melbourne however, Ron Dennis was very quick to point out that as yet no one at McLaren has been made redundant of fired. Mr Dennis has also stated that he has no interest in returning to the role of team principal so if Martin was to be replaced Ross would be the obvious choice as he is available.

Should Ross take up the position of team principal at McLaren he would be reunited with Jenson Button who was at Brawn in 2009 when they won the driver's and constructor's championship. It would also see him team up once again with Honda who from 2015 will supply the Woking based squad with 1.6 litre V6 turbo charged engine's.

It is certainly going to be an extremely interesting few week's for McLaren.
