Resources key to new F1 applicant

The FIA announced in December that it was seeking applications for a new Formula One team. So with Gene Haas announcing today that he has applied for a spot on the F1 grid and with former F1 team boss Colin Kolles also seeking an extra into F1 with Stefan Grand Prix which applicant is likely to succeed?

In my opinion, I believe that Gene Haas has the resources both in the US and in Europe to be successful in his bid to enter Formula One however Colin Kolles has been involved in Formula One previously as a team boss.

With Haas, he runs a team in NASCAR and has a base in both Charlotte and in Europe. He also owns a full scale wind tunnel which he has rented out to current Formula One team's as only it is a full scale facility.

Due to the fact the he is involved in NASCAR it also means that Haas has access to a vast amount of potential US investors through sponsorship opportunities and Formula One would be an ideal platform for some of the company's already involved with his team as it is a huge worldwide fan base and would allow potential sponsors to explore new markets.

Stewart Haas Racing co owner Tony Stewart has had experience's with Formula One through his sponsorship with Mobil 1 being involved with demonstration runs with McLaren, however, Stewart is not involved in the Haas Formula entry.

As for Stefan Grand Prix, they applied for a place on the F1 grid back in 2010, however, they were unsuccessful with the FIA selecting Marussia (then Virgin Racing) Caterham (then Lotus) and the now defunct Hispania Racing Team.

For Haas, if they were successful they would be able to split their resources between the US and Europe. We'll just have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks and months
