(Ben Johnston 2014)
It has been a very busy day on the driver front in Formula One today. First we had the announcement that Paul Di Resta will return to the German Touring Car Championship with Mercedes this year and then the Sauber F1 Team announced that former Caterham driver Giedo Van Der Garde has joined the Swiss team as their test and reserve driver.
Van Der Garde made his Formula One debut with the Leafield based squad last season and despite being hopeful that he would be retained by the team for this season they have decided to do a clear out. First it was announced that Charles Pic had left the team and today we had confirmation that the team has signed Kamui Kobayashi and Marcus Ericsson for the 2014 campaign.
In his new role at the Sauber F1 Team, Van Der Garde will take part in a number of Friday practice sessions aswell as testing for the team during the designated in season testing days.
