McLaren's Jenson Button has stated how impressed he is with how the Williams Martini Racing Team have performed so far this season. The 2009 world champion who made his Formula One debut with the Grove based outfit in the year 2000 believes that smart investments by the management team at Williams has helped the outfit move up the grid. Button commented:
'They've done a great job and I am happy for Frank and Claire to see them competitive'.
The Williams team are currently in four place in the Constructors championship, 38 points and two places ahead of Button's McLaren team. Button feels that the team have done a fantastic job particularly in terms of their aerodynamic package.
Williams have an extremely strong technical department which is being lead by technical director Pat Symonds and new head of performance engineering Rob Smedley who joined the team from Ferrari earlier this season. The team also have a number of new partners including Mercedes, Martini and Petrobas. Felipe Massa has also joined the team from Ferrari.
Massa has a deal with the Grove based outfit which will see him with the team until at least the end of the 2016 season while Valtteri Bottas has been linked to Button's McLaren seat as the 2009 champion who has been with the Woking based team since the 2010 season is out of contract at the end of the season. It has been suggested that following his great season to date with the Williams team that Valtteri Bottas could go to McLaren next season which IF it were to happen could see the Finn effectively switch places with Button as a seat alongside Massa would be very tempting for 2009 champion.
It would also be a fantastic move for the Williams team having two extremely experienced drivers at the team. Jenson Button has stated that he is not ready to leave Formula One and McLaren Racing Director Eric Boullier has stated that the team would not confirm or deny that they are looking to replace one or both of their drivers for the 2015 season when the Woking based outfit make the switch to Honda power units.
